FOR THE GIFT EXCHANGE:

Wrap a silly gift.  Any old thing  —  make sure it’s funny!  After everyone who has brought

something has chosen a wrapped gift, they’ll be free to exchange it with anyone who will

part with theirs.  (If your gift ends up in the auction, all the better!  We’ll laugh at it a second time!)

FOR THE AUCTION:

Bring outdoor gear or other useful items you think will sell. The auction is a lot of fun, especially when the bidding gets hot and heavy!  Make sure to have a look at the auction stuff before the bidding begins - come early if you want to buy!  AND REMEMBER: You get to take home anything you bring that doesn’t sell!

DIRECTIONS

DESERT SURVIVORS HOLIDAY PARTY  2005

DIRECTIONS TO LYNNE BUCKNER’S HOUSE, 67 WOOL STREET:

FROM THE NORTH BAY OR THE EAST BAY:

Get into San Francisco via the Bay Bridge.  Get on Route 101 South and exit at the Cesar Chavez (formerly “Army Street”) off-ramp complex so you can end up on Bayshore Boulevard South.  (Note: This can be tricky.  When the interchange was first built in the 1970s, a two-hour course was offered by the “Open Exchange” Adult School, designed to aid people in figuring out how to use the interchange without getting lost.  The course was two hours long so people would be able to drive all the weird confusing side streets in the neighborhood in numerous, often unsuccessful, efforts to get back to where they started, so they could try again to find their way, perhaps from another direction. Classroom work was supplemented by actual field trips to the interchange so students would be able to practice lane-changing for various destinations.)

On Bayshore, drive south to Cortland Street.  Take a right and travel west up the hill twelve blocks to Wool Street.  PARKING ON WOOL STREET ITSELF IS TIGHT; PARK WHERE YOU CAN, ON CORTLAND OR ELSEWHERE. To get to the house, go right (north) up the hill on Wool.  It’s a block and a half to number 67, a white house with blue trim.  The house has stencils of hares (large-eared rabbits) all over it.  If taking public transit, a MUNI bus runs right up Cortland from either Mission or Bayshore.

FROM THE PENINSULA:

Approaching from the Peninsula and points south, get off the 101 Freeway at Silver Avenue, then turn left onto Bayshore.  Drive north for 4/10ths of a mile to Cortland and go left (west).  Follow the directions as above to Wool Street.

FROM SAN FRANCISCO’S WEST HALF:

If you live in the west half of S. F., approach Bernal Heights from Mission Street, which runs along it on the west.  Cortland is south of Cesar Chavez (Army) and just north of where Guererro and Dolores Streets intersect Mission.  From the Mission Street/Cortland intersection, Wool Street is east. After eight blocks, turn left (north), then proceed as above.
