DESERT SURVIVORS
Earth Day Party
Join your fellow Desert Survivors at our 2004 Earth Day Party! We’ll enjoy plenty of good cheer and conversation. Meet your fellow members, talk about trips and experiences, find out about new destinations, meet new hiking buddies. We’ll also have the latest information on the desert issues we’ve been following. We’ll finish the night with an excellent slide show illustrating recent desert trips. Bring your slides, photos, stories, etc. to share with the group.
If you’re in Marin for one of those Spring Wildflower hikes, stop by afterward at John’s place. This party provides closure to our desert Spring season. Our new Summer Trip Schedule should be available, introducing yet another round of desert trips. We’ll be launching our Nevada Desert Trail Relay the following weekend, so we’ll have information on that. It’ll be “a good show”.

We’re looking for volunteers at the fair --- to staff our table, talk to visitors about trips and issues, and explain the desert’s unique beauty to the uninformed. It’s a great way to teach about the desert. If you want to help, call Steve Tabor at (510) 769-1706. The fair runs all day, 11 am to 5 pm.
For more information, call Steve Tabor at (510) 769-1706.
DIRECTIONS to John Hart’s house: 13 Jefferson Avenue, San Rafael
From the East Bay, take 580 across the San Rafael bridge and let it feed you onto U.S. 101 going north. Once on 101, take the second exit: North San Pedro Road/Marin County Civic Center. Keep right when the offramp splits. This deposits you on North San Pedro, going east. At the first stoplight, turn left on Civic Center Drive. In two-tenths of a mile, turn right on Armory. Immediately turn right again and park in a large lot. Walk left along the far edge of the parking lot. Toward the left side, a pedestrian gate lets you onto Madison Avenue. Walk right on Madison, then left on Jefferson. Head for a large eucalyptus tree on the right side. John’s driveway goes in just past this tree.
From San Francisco, essentially the same. You’ll catch U.S. 101 North shortly after the turn toward the San Rafael Bridge (which you’ll bypass).
From points north of San Rafael along 101, take the North San Pedro/Civic Center exit; turn left at the stop sign; left again at a stop sign; west under the freeway to the stoplight at Civic Center Avenue.
HELP DESERT SURVIVORS
at the EARTH DAY FAIR in BERKELEY!!
SATURDAY APRIL 24, 2004
Once again this year Desert Survivors will be staffing a table at the Berkeley Earth Day Fair in the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park on MLK Way. We’ll be meeting the public, talking to folks who are interested in the desert and in desert hiking. It’s a great way to meet new people, generate new members, and show your love and enthusiasm for the desert.
Look for the DS table with our displays and banner. We’ll have Seymour the Snake there, too — just in case we have enough members to take him around the park to thrill the kids and scare the adults. Wear your Desert Survivors hat and tee-shirt to “show your colors”. We’ll go over to the Earth Day Party in Marin after we’re through.
WHEN: Saturday, April 24, 2004
WHERE: Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park on MLK Way, Berkeley
If you can come, please call Steve Tabor at (510) 769-1706.
Thank you, and see you on Earth Day!
