Route-Finding Day

Oak Grove Picnic Area
BRIONES REGIONAL PARK CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
JOIN YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS FOR A DAY OF ROUTE-FINDING TRAINING USING MAP & COMPASS AND GPS
This Fall we'll gather in a San Francisco Bay location to learn how to find our way in the back-country using topographic maps, compass and Global Positioning System (GPS). Experienced Desert Survivors trip leaders will lead classes in the morning (map & compass) and afternoon (GPS) at picnic tables under spreading live oaks. After each class, we'll test our skills on hikes in the hills.
The Seminar will be held the Oak Grove Picnic Area at Briones Regional Park in Contra Costa County. START EARLY! IT'S ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE EAST BAY HILLS. We'll meet at the Picnic Area at 9:00 AM (sharp!) and begin promptly, following the schedule below. Bring whatever you'll need for the sessions: maps, compass, GPS, pencil, notebook, First Aid kit, water bottle, hiking boots, sun protection, questions, answers & plenty of enthusiasm. Also a potluck lunch & drinks to share, plus a $5 donation for the site, and $5 in cash (per car) for the parking attendant.
