Just a reminder that the Desert Survivors Summer Picnic is set for Roberts Recreation Area in the Oakland Hills next Saturday, June 21. The notice is below.

Also, the Desert Survivors Technical Seminar ("all about how to lead a trip!") will be held on July 19 at Lakeview Picnic Area in Tilden Park, Berkeley.  There is still plenty of space.  Call or e-mail me if you want to attend.  It's an all-day event, 9 am to 4 pm.

DIRECTIONS:

Roberts Recreation Area is on the crest of the Oakland
Hills between Highway 24 and Mills College.  It is best
approached from the west off Highway 13.  From the east
north and west, access Highway 13 from Highway 24.  From
the south, use Interstate-580.

Once on Highway 13, get off at Redwood Road and drive up
the hill (east) to Skyline Boulevard.  Go north (left) on
Skyline for about one-half mile, to where it bears right
up the hill, bypassing Joaquin Miller Road, which bears
left.

Follow Skyline as it winds uphill.  Look for a small
building on the right, the Metropolitan Horsemen's
Association Building.  (If you get to the Chabot Science
Center, you've gone too far.)  Park in the large parking
lot behind the Horsemen's Association Building.  Walk
past a yellow sign and follow the switchbacks, first
right and then left, into the trees.  Once in the trees,
you'll find Redwood Bowl down the hill to the right, in
the hollow.  We'll be at the picnic tables near the
bathrooms.
